The Vacation Spray Tan Guide
Wondering if the pre-vacation spray tan is worth it? The answer is always yes, but here are a few things you should consider to get the most out of your tan while you’re away.
Before Your Vacation Tan
- Skin Prep. If you’ve had a spray tan before, you know we’re always preaching about skin prep. While it’s always important for best results, it’s especially key when you’re looking to get more than 3 days out of a tan. If you ever have any questions on our spray tan preparation recommendations, do not hesitate to reach out!
- Timing is Key. This is the one instance where we recommend scheduling your tan just one day prior!
- Invest in Spray Tan Friendly Products. Long story short, products will make or break your tan. Below you will find a list of products we recommend packing. (Pro Tip: At Everything Beauty, we have TSA approved travel kits for $30 containing a spray tan friendly body wash and lotion, plus a tan extender and tanning water)
- Body Wash – Opt for a gel based body wash with minimal ingredients. Aleavia is our favorite spray tan friendly body wash
- Lotion – Avoid mineral oils. Aleavia is our favorite spray tan friendly lotion
- Sunscreen – Keep in mind, a spray tan does not provide sun protection but unfortunately, many sunscreens contain oils and alcohol that can cause your skin to dry out and will ruin your beautiful spray tan. Bask is our favorite spray tan friendly sunscreen (and Bask is the ONLY spray sunscreen approved because it is a non-aerosol spray). If buying any other brand, opt for a lotion based sunscreen
- Tan Extending Products – Prolonged amounts of time in water can cause your sunless tan to fade a bit quicker. This is where tan extending products, like our Tanning Water and Tan Extender, come into play
While on Vacation
- Before Any Water Exposure. Before you jump in the pool, hot tub or ocean, apply a barrier to your skin. This can be a spray tan friendly lotion, body oil or sunscreen depending on the time of day. This barrier on your skin will act as a layer of protection for the spray tan
- After Any Water Exposure. Once you’re out of the pool, hot tub or ocean, do a quick rinse with water as quickly as possible. This will stop the chlorine and salt water from drying out your skin even further
- Hydrate Inside and Out. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out, preventing dryness and flakiness. Additionally, moisturize your skin twice a day with a spray tan friendly lotion
