Spray Tan Aftercare: Tips for Prolonging and Maintaining Your Glow

We get it. When you invest in a professional spray tan, you want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. While this might not be the answer you want to hear… Proper aftercare is the key to ensuring your glow lasts for 7 to 10 days. That said, here are our favorite tips and tricks for spray tan aftercare.

1. Hydration is Key

Proper hydration is CRUCIAL for preserving your spray tan (and for maintaining overall health and well-being). What we’re talking about here is hydrating from the inside out. Personally, we love to add quality minerals and/or electrolytes our water, which is one of your quickest and easiest options.

In addition, opt for a moisturizer that is free from mineral oils and heavy fragrances, as these can cause your tan to fade more quickly. Apply moisturizer daily, paying extra attention to drier areas like elbows, knees and ankles. Well-hydrated skin not only extends the life of your tan but also keeps your skin looking healthy and radiant.

And if you just know proper hydration isn’t your thing… You need to add-on our hydration treatment the next time you’re in.

2. Avoid Excessive Sweating and Water Exposure

To extend the life of your spray tan, it’s ideal to avoid activities that lead to excessive sweating or prolonged water exposure. As much as we all love hot tubs and hot yoga… These can accelerate how quickly your tan fades. If you do get wet, pat your skin dry instead of rubbing to minimize tan removal. (This is also recommended after daily showers).

3. Touch-Up at Home

Sadly no tan lasts forever and spray tans are no exception. However, our Tanning Water and Tan Extender make it easier than ever to maintain your glow at home. It is inevitable our hands and face fade quickly and these products solve that problem. They’re best to use starting around day 3 or day 4. Our clients especially love to grab these before heading out for a longer trip or vacation.

4. Gentle Exfoliation

While you want to avoid harsh exfoliants during the peak of your tan, gentle exfoliation at the right time will help your tan fade evenly. We recommend using an Exfoliating Mitt about 7 to 10 days after your spray tan session. This helps remove dead skin cells and prevents patchiness as your tan naturally starts to wear off.

The reality is… All good things in life require effort and your spray tan is no exception. A long-lasting tan requires teamwork and here’s our promise to you that we’re committed to doing our part. If you’re not getting the results you’re looking for, reach out so we can help!
